AmeriHealth Mercy Discusses Challenges Facing Medicaid Managed Care Organizations During Health Care Reform Implementation

July 7, 2010
Philadelphia, PAJoyce Hagen, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing and Development Officer at the AmeriHealth Mercy Family of Companies was a keynote speaker at the Corporate Research Group's How Health Plans Can Survive Reform Conference on June 28. Her presentation was on "Challenges and Opportunities in Serving Uninsured Populations: A Case Study."

Hagen's presentation focused on the challenges that can occur when a large number of uninsured people are added to a Medicaid managed care organization. These members are more likely to be sick and need more care than members of commercial plans who are the same age and gender. As a result, this population will have a sharp increase in treatment during the first few months of enrollment. Hagen offered some insights regarding program development and funding based on AmeriHealth Mercy’s experience with managed care programs for the uninsured population.

The conference took place at the Millennium UN Plaza Hotel in New York, New York. It focused on how health plans can survive after the health care reform bill is fully implemented.
